When did Steve Jobs first know that the iPhone 4 might have issues with its now infamous antenna design? According to a report out this morning, in the “early design phase” – an accusation that’s likely to add to the growing criticism currently surrounding the device.
According to Bloomberg, Ruben Caballero – described as a “senior engineer and antenna expert” – warned Apple management back in 2009 that iPhone 4’s design might cause antenna issues.
Furthermore, Bloomberg goes on to say that one of Apple’s carrier partners also voiced concerns ahead of iPhone 4’s launch – concerns that it would appear were ignored, or at least not thought of as being a blocker to the device’s launch.
Now, with Consumer Reports saying they can’t recommend the device and Apple’s shares down about 10 percent since the company’s “most successful product launch … in history,” the problems have become a far bigger issue than Apple likely imagined.
Expect the question of “when did you know?” to be one of the first ones asked when Apple addresses the media at a press conference scheduled for Friday.
